Reaching across the aisle

While the bitter divisiveness in American politics can be a lot of fun, it is also dangerous. We as a nation are threatening to tear ourselves apart. And though our enemies may rejoice, we, in the real world, living here with each other, are only likely to suffer in this dark, deadly, and bitter polarization.

And that is why clerkmanifesto is taking the unheard of, unprecedented step of reaching across the aisle.

I'm a little nervous. I have become unaccustomed to rapprochement.

Okay, I'm all set up to help bridge this gap. I can even stop using terms like "rapprochement".

I have my balance and prudence. I relent on the ferocity of my convictions. I've moved all the way out to the aisle.

I am open to everything.

I'm ready to work and to give.

Here goes nothing.

To you, across the aisle:

I extend my hand.

I said:

"I EXTEND MY HAND."

Ahem, let me try that a little louder:

"I EXTEND MY HAND."

I THINK MAYBE YOU'RE A LITTLE FAR AWAY TO HEAR ME!

I SAID YOU'RE TOO FAR! YOU'RE TOO FAR!

COULD YOU COME A COUPLE SEATS CLOSER?

I SAID 'A COUPLE SEATS CLOSER'.

NO, WRONG WAY!

You're going the wrong way!

I SAID "THAT'S THE WRONG WAY!"

Hello. CAN YOU HEAR ME?

HELLO!!!

HELLOOOOOO!!!!

Nope.

They're gone.

To tell you the truth I don't think they're even in the same theater anymore.

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.

I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!

One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.
