Almost famous library worker

It is the ancient custom of this blog, clerkmanifesto, to not name the library I work at. There were sensible enough precautionary reasons for this ten years ago when I started out. But now that I'm constantly posting pictures of the inside of my library, in both improved and degraded versions, it might be a bit silly as a personal directive. Nevertheless we will observe the custom in today's story and refer to my library as "The Saint Minneapolis Library".

But we don't start there. We start at the Saint Minneapolis Department of Vehicle Services (the DVS). My lovely and delightful wife and I were there to register a car title. As we entered the facility and joined the inevitable and pointless line a man turned around and looked at me. He got that quizzical look of someone who thinks he sees someone familiar but is not sure from where. So he asked me:

"Did you go to Saint Minneapolis High School?"

"No, I didn't." I replied, because it was the answer to his question.

He looked unsatisfied.

So I ventured, in an attempt to help, "I work over at the Saint Minneapolis Library." I said. "I have for decades, so you might know me from there."

He shrugged like it was unlikely, and we both went about our business.

Cut forward less than a week. I am at my library letting a group into the meeting room they reserved. And there he is again!

"Hey!" He says. "It's me. From the DVS!"

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I responded coolly. "But did you ever go to Saint Minneapolis High School?"

Okay, I didn't really say that last part.

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.

I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!

One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.
