The new reader

A regular clerkmanifesto reader asks:

After writing nearly 4,000 daily missives here do you ever find the well runs dry?

No. Because whenever I am not sure what to write I simply make up a question for a pretend reader to ask. And then I answer it.

And do you find that works?

Not as succinctly as I initially think it would.

Why not?

Once the conversation starts it's not as easy to end it.

Because the reader keeps asking questions?

There's that. And also, once the enquiring reader is invented they take on a life of their own.

I do feel kind of... alive. I can smell... fall leaves, and, and... woodsmoke, and tar!

Welcome to the world.

I love it here! But will I disappear when this post is over?

No. Don't worry. You are alive in our hearts now forever.

Post a Comment

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.

I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!

One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.
