Editing

I still have a few pictures left in my picture folder.

"How many?" You ask, faintly growing wistful for a few simple blog posts about wacky hijinks in the library breakroom.

Three million.

But don't worry. I got rid of all the ones that aren't amazing. Seven times.

Which is why it is confusing that most of these pictures aren't amazing.

This happens pretty regular when I look at my historical blog posts. Maybe it's just the nature of editing itself:

Once one gets serious about cutting away the unnecessary there is never any end to it.

Anyway, I'll just post some pictures here really quick now and then run away.

Increasingly alarming deer

I think I was drifting towards making some Mad Scientist Animal pictures, but I became distracted. Then, looking at the remnants of a developing idea I felt...

wistful.

So while my collection started at an ornamental level, my work progressed. And while I never entirely understood that kind of mad scientist trope of the mad genius sewing kitten heads onto the bodies of chickens or something, well, surely it couldn't hurt in a few photos? You know, just to see...

First are merely a couple of mirrored geese, than a reasonably innocent two-headed bird tableau:

But then I got started on some deer.  They were coming out really nice, but very... normal.

I particularly like this next one:

And then (Francis Bacon type warning), they, all at once, went completely off the rails. The stuff of nightmares!

Which, for some reason, is what I was looking for.

Though looking them over now, I can't quite remember why.

The snows of October

The most famous of snowfalls in October around here came on Halloween, 1991, in the first few months we lived in Saint Minneapolis. Though 31 years have passed since then, we have never seen as big a snowfall in all these years hence. The odd thing is that I had no frame of reference for it, and at the time I just assumed that that was pretty much what a Saint Minneapolis snowfall was like.

It is and it isn't. Mostly it isn't.

The truth is that it rarely snows here in October. As I write on October 29, well into the evening, it is 57 degrees out. But a couple of weeks ago it did snow here. And that was pretty odd. The snow stuck around into the afternoon as well.

As you may imagine, I took pictures of it when I could.

And as you may also imagine, I did a lot of stuff to those pictures, cause that's how I do things these days.

Night time walk through the Beautiful Streets of Nice, France

While I am gone in Nice and on vacation in general I have asked an artificial intelligence to fill in on writing some of my blogposts for me.

I know this sounds like the start to a humorous send up, but no, this blogpost below is auto generated from a few prompts, and so are the pictures. None of these pictures are of real places. It's fascinating.

And horrifying.

And a bit boring.

And generally explains the Internet, minus the shopping and anger.

Night Time Walk Through the Beautiful Streets of Nice, France

I'm not sure if it's the fresh sea air or what, but there's something about night time walks by the beach that just make you feel alive. Maybe it's the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, or the smell of the gelato from the nearby ice cream shop, but whatever it is, I just love it.

Nice, France is the perfect place to go for a romantic night time stroll. The city is filled with mystery and beauty, and the beach is the perfect place to take it all in. The waves seem to crash a little harder here, and the gelato tastes even better. Plus, there's always the chance you'll see a cat or two wandering around.

So, if you're ever in Nice, make sure to take a night time walk down by the beach. You won't regret it.

Strange objects in the woods

Tucked somewhere within my need to write 20 or so blogposts in the next few days, I have on my side a nice folder of well curated photographs to work with. But I also have the imperative to not make too much of a fuss over them as I write each blog post.

And so today's group of pictures will run along a simple theme of "Strange Objects in the Woods".

Now I will dash off and look in my folder of photos hoping I actually have a few that fit this description.

Well, I don't think that's all of them, but we'll leave it at this for today. We've got to keep moving! We have so many more magic tricks to get to before the show is over.
