Living the dream

As we officially put into motion in this coming week a plan to move from this famous city to perhaps another more suited to us, maybe Montpellier, maybe not, I can't help starting to wistfully reflect upon our time here. Much like when we left Saint Minneapolis a year ago, and I was wandering around like Frodo before he fled the Shire, constantly muttering "Lo, I shall never look down upon this storied river again!" and silly things like that, I am now looking at buildings and across at vistas with a similar early nostalgia. "Lo, shall I gaze upon this frilly Belle Epoque apartment building ever again?"

Well, yeah, probably. But at some point, no, never.

Life, eh?

One thing that crazily occurred to me today, which vaguely shocked me because I don't really think of us as people constantly making our dreams come true is, weirdly, we do have a tendancy to make our dreams come true.

Five or six years ago we came on a vacation to this city. We stayed for a couple of weeks. We had a bit nicer apartment than this, but not wildly out of the range of it. We shopped in the markets in the morning. We explored the city, even once taking a train out to Menton to check that out. We went to cafes. And in the evening we tended to sit around a kitchen table eating things we collected, drinking, playing scrabble.

This is mostly what we've been doing now since December.

As one does, we, at the time, on vacation, were all like: We should move here and do this all the time!

And so we did.

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.

I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!

One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.
