Banter

Some library visitors like to banter. I can do that!

A man who I haven't seen in years, from before the pandemic, came in to the library. We may have never exchanged a serious word in our lives, and we were back at it without missing a beat.

"Do children ever get caught up in your book return?" He asked. Our automated return door feeds into a long and complicated conveyer belt system.

"All the time." I answered. "It's like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory around here."

"Ah well." He reflected. "I guess they're learning valuable life lessons."

"No." I said sadly. "It's more of a culling process. But the children remaining in this town are extremely well behaved."

It's kind of like "Hi, how have you been?", but stranger.

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.

I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!

One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.
