The wisdom of the stacks
I have been working for many long years with the non-fiction books. And as an at once enormously successful author and an enormously unsuccessful author I take a keen interest in all kinds of books on authors, writing, and publishing. Today I came across a book called The Complete Guide to Self Publishing. I took from it here everything you need to know:
Never trust a book on self publishing that wasn't self published.

If you were wondering, yes, you should comment. Not only does it remind me that I must write in intelligible English because someone is actually reading what I write, but it is also a pleasure for me since I am interested in anything you have to say.
I respond to pretty much every comment. It's like a free personalized blog post!
One last detail: If you are commenting on a post more than two weeks old I have to go in and approve it. It's sort of a spam protection device. Also, rarely, a comment will go to spam on its own. Give either of those a day or two and your comment will show up on the blog.

ReplyDeleteHave you read The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell? Some of his entries remind me of your writing. You might enjoy it. Then again, you might not. I don't think I have a very good grip on your tastes!
Though I experimented with snow angel making in my earlier years in Minnesota, I found them... unsatisfying, but should I be seized with the urge again I shall take your advice to heart.
ReplyDeleteThough I consider my tastes understandable, I am also a very hard sell and so I appreciate your consideration. This one does sound up my alley, and I have requested it, finding in the process that it is popular and underbought by our largely on auto pilot acquisition team. Which means I have a goodly wait for one of our three copies.
Ah, yes, there is a waiting list. HCL has 33 copies and 164 holds. I have a copy until 3/21, if you want to read it right away. Or give it a trial run to see if you like it. Let me know if you'd like me to bring it in. Fastest way to let me know would be to use library.logger@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes put my requests in at RCL and HCL then see which one is available first.
Of course, my card is from SPPL. I rarely use SPPL because branches aren't where I need them to be.
